“Art that made us” yn Llyfrgell Maesteg

Fel rhan o’r ŵyl ‘Art that made us’ rydym yn arddangos un o’r llyfrau mwyaf yng Nghasgliadau Awen yn llyfrgell Maesteg rhwng 19 a 24 Ebrill. Bydd llwybr arbennig i blant yn y llyfrgell hefyd, yn ogystal ag Amseroedd Stori ar thema’r Aifft.
Mae ‘Book of the Dead’ yn dangostestunau o’r hen Aifft, a ysgrifennwyd ar bapyrws tua 3000 o flynyddoedd yn ôl. Mae’r testunau’n cynnwys darluniau a swynau hud. Byddai’r testunau hyn yn cael eu rhoi ym meddau’r meirwon – credai’r Eifftwyr y byddai hyn yn helpu’r meirwon ar eu taith i’r byd nesaf.
Mae’r llyfr hwn dros 23 modfedd (neu 60 centimetr) o daldra; mae’n rhaid iddo fod mor fawr â hyn i gynnwys darluniau’r sgroliau papyrws gwreiddiol.
Mynediad am ddim a chroeso i bawb!
“Art that made us” at Maesteg Library

As part of the ‘Art that made us’ festival we’re displaying one of the largest books in our Awen Collections in Maesteg library from 19th-24th April. There will also be a special children’s trail in the library, as well as Egyptian-themed Storytimes.
The ‘Book of the Dead’ shows texts from ancient Egypt, written on papyrus around 3000 years ago. The texts include drawings and magic spells. These texts would be placed in the tomb or coffin of a dead person – Egyptians believed this would help dead people on their journey to the afterlife.
This book is over 23 inches (or 60 centimetres) tall; it has to be this big to fit the illustrations of the original papyrus scrolls.
Free entry and everybody welcome!
