Awen Cultural Trust will host its third Bridgend Children’s Literature Festival from Saturday 22nd February to Saturday 1st March, supported by Arts Council of Wales, Bridgend County Borough Council and UK Government.

The half-term festival, which takes place at Bryngarw Country Park, Maesteg Town Hall and libraries across the Bridgend County Borough, hopes to engage and inspire an enjoyment of books and reading among children, young people and their families.

The programme of events, which will kick off with a performance by the hugely popular Spark! LED drummers at Maesteg Town Hall, will also feature:

  • Babis Bach: The Gruffalo – bilingual storytelling with live harp music, dressing up, craft and singing
  • Naz Syed: Story and Craft – hear the story of ‘Swallow’s Kiss’ and create your very own paper wish bird
  • The Great Big Dinosaur Show – a family show full of poems, raps and songs about your favourite prehistoric creatures
  • Will Millard: The Magic of Water – an immersive exploration beneath the water’s surface with the adventurer, writer and TV presenter

Chief Executive of Awen Cultural Trust, Richard Hughes, said:

“Thanks to the support of our funding partners, we are able to offer a fun-packed programme of events which are free or low cost for families to enjoy during the February half-term. This is very important to Awen as we are committed to removing any barriers, such as financial challenges, that may stop people from accessing arts and culture in their local area.

“Sadly, research has found that children’s literacy attainment in Wales has been severely impacted by the pandemic. We hope that the Bridgend Children’s Literature Festival can play its part in addressing this issue by helping to bring books and stories to life through exciting and memorable experiences for all ages.”
