Staff’s Pick of the Month

Choosing your next read can be tough, so we’re asking Awen Libraries staff to recommend a book every month to help you pick yours. This month, we asked Debra and Emily what books have inspired them the most.

Debra said: “A favourite book of mine that I recommend is The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean. It is a fantasy fiction; particularly magical realism is my favourite genre and this book fits very nicely into that category. It is the story of a mother who will do anything to help her son, who due to a quirk of nature, has to feed on human minds instead of story books. It is a dark tale where you’re never quite sure who to trust and I loved it!”

Emily said: “A favourite book of mine that I recommend is All the Men I Never Married by Kim Moore. If you have to choose one poet to read, make it Kim Moore. These poems are powerful, detailing experiences of everyday sexism (CW: sexual assault, domestic violence). Her first collection (The Art of Falling) is also brilliant. Published by Bridgend-based publisher, Seren; ATMINM won the Forward Prize”.
