Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update – 19th March 2020
Awen Cultural Trust has now taken the difficult decision to close all libraries across the county borough of Bridgend from 5pm on Friday 20th March. These closures will remain in place until further notice.
We know that many people look to their local libraries as a haven; a safe and welcoming place where people of all ages can be inspired and supported – that is why we have maintained a service over the past few days. Although we had hoped to keep libraries open throughout this unprecedented situation, we believe that closure is now the right thing to do now due to increasing staffing pressures and the need to help the efforts to encourage social distancing.
The health and wellbeing of our library members, staff, volunteers, and the wider community is our priority. We wish to target our resources where they are most needed and therefore we will be working closely with our colleagues at Bridgend County Borough Council in the delivery of other essential services over the coming weeks and months. We will, as best we can, continue our Books on Wheels home delivery service to reach those people most affected by this challenging set of circumstances.
We will automatically renew any books you have on loan, and as we remain the only library service in Wales which has removed fines for overdue books, so library members do not need to worry about being unable to return items for some time.
We also have a wide range of eBooks, audiobooks, digital magazines and other resources which can all be accessed from home via our website www.awen-libraries.com. Please email email@example.com for help on becoming a member and using these resources.
We will keep you informed of future developments via our website and social media.
Thank you for your continued support.
