Meet our new “Books on Wheels” team

Recently our mobile library service across the county borough of Bridgend has been overhauled, changing to the brand new ‘Books on Wheels’ service. This service enables isolated and housebound people to benefit from books being brought directly to their door.

Previously called ‘Booklink’, the new “Books on Wheels” service has additional stops where our friendly and helpful staff deliver hundreds of books, audiobooks and DVDs a month.

Ongoing ‘Booklink’ borrowers will have been familiar with either Phil or Andrew. Whilst Andrew is still in our team, Phil has recently retired after 9 years as our Community Librarian. Whilst we wish Phil a very happy retirement, we are pleased Vicky has joined our team and will be serving our community borrowers alongside Andrew.

Getting to know Vicky…

Before working for Awen, Vicky has previously worked for both Bridgend College and Singleton Hospital Library as a Library Assistant. As well as these roles, she has done some Admin work for the NHS and worked in the pensions department for Legal and General, Cardiff. Officially our Books on Wheels driver since December, Vicky lives in Bridgend and is looking forward to the social interactions her role will include, as well as being able to provide and help people who are vulnerable within our community. An avid reader herself, Vicky will always welcome book recommendations and particularly enjoys reading classic and psychological novels. If she was to choose one author she particularly loves (with a lot of thought), she would choose Jane Austen.

Pictured is our swanky newly branded van, Vicky and Andrew. If you know of anyone who loves to read and could benefit from “Books on Wheels”, or perhaps you would like to know some more information about this service for yourself, you can contact the team with any questions on 01656 754808 or email
